Nicholas Zhang competed in his first Pan American Games at Santiago 2023 where he was a member of the men’s épée team that won silver. A few months earlier he’d been a double medallist at the 2023 Pan American Championships, winning individual épée silver to go with a bronze in the men’s team épée.

Zhang qualified to make his Olympic debut at Paris 2024 with a thrilling overtime victory in the Pan American Zonal Qualifier in April 2024.

Zhang has been representing Canada internationally since 2022 when he finished sixth in the cadet category for men’s individual épée at the FIE World Junior Championships. Later that year, he made his World Cup debut and competed at his first senior FIE World Championships. In 2023, he placed fifth in the junior category at the junior worlds.
