Ruien (Angel) Xiao
Biography
Ruien (Angel) Xiao was among Team Canada’s youngest athletes at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games where she won two medals at the age of 15, taking bronze in women’s individual épée and helping Canada to the silver medal in women’s team épée.
In December 2023, Xiao earned her first podium finish at a senior FIE World Cup event, taking bronze in Vancouver. In April 2024, she was the runner-up at the Pan American Zonal Qualifier for Paris 2024, missing out on Olympic qualification by one place before receiving a quota spot in the reallocation process.
In 2023, Xiao competed at all three levels of FIE World Championships – senior, junior, and cadet. It was her debut at the senior worlds after competing at the junior and cadet worlds in 2022.
