Nikka Stoger

Biography

Nikka Stoger has been sailing since she was 15 years old and hasn’t put the tiller down since. She is a CANSail Certified Sailing Instructor and a member of Temple Reef Sailing Club and the Thunder Bay Yacht Club. Stoger began racing Lightnings in 2015 and has competed with Richard Walsh and Alex Cox since 2016. In 2017, Stoger was the recipient of a Lighting Class sailboat from the International Lightning Class Association Boat Grant Program. Along with her two crew, she travelled to many local and International regattas over the 2017 sailing season, most notably the WJM North American Championships in Brick, New Jersey where her team placed eighth. In 2018, Stoger became the proud owner of her own Lightning that she skippers on weekly race nights and at local regattas. Stoger competed with Walsh and Cox in the North American Championships in San Diego in July 2018, where they placed 11th and qualified Canada for the 2019 Pan American Games. They went on to win the 2019 Canadian Championships, earning their place in the Lightning event at Lima 2019.

Getting into the Sport: Started sailing at age 15 on a family trip to Mexico, signed up for sailing lessons, eventually became an instructor, and joined Temple Reef Sailing Club and Thunder Bay Yacht Club… Outside Interests: Starting at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in the fall of 2019… Volunteers at her local hospital, loves to fish, and can play any instrument you hand her…  Odds and Ends: Nickname: Niks, Stogie… Team motto: Love wins…
