Shea Theodore
Biography
Shea Theodore is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026. Theodore was a member of Canada’s championship-winning team at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, though he only played in one game after suffering a wrist injury in the opening match against Sweden.
Theodore’s first experience with the senior men’s national team came at the 2019 IIHF World Championship. During that tournament, he tested positive for high levels of the hormone hCG, which in some men can be a sign of testicular cancer. After helping Canada win the silver medal, recording two goals and five assists, Theodore returned home where further tests confirmed his cancer diagnosis. He underwent successful surgery to remove the stage 1 growth.
Theodore made his international debut in 2012 with the Canadian U18 development program, winning gold at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. In 2013 he won gold at the IIHF World U18 Championship. He continued his international success as a member of the U20 team at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, bringing home another gold medal for Canada.
Theodore was drafted in the first round, 26th overall, by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Upon turning pro in 2014, he spent time with both the Ducks and their AHL affiliate in San Diego for a couple of seasons. He was dealt to Vegas during the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft and helped the newly formed club reach the Stanley Cup Final in their first season. He lifted the Stanley Cup as a member of the Golden Knights in 2023.
Theodore played junior hockey for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL. He served as team captain in 2014-15 and was named the WHL’s Top Defenceman. He was a two-time Conference First Team All-Star selection and led the league in points by a defenceman in 2013-14. He represented the WHL All-Stars in the 2015 Canada-Russia Super Series. Theodore won a gold medal with Team BC at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
