ON THE PITCH: The Canadian women’s national soccer team will face Team USA, ranked No. 1 in the world, in a friendly match at BMO Field in Toronto on Monday, May 25 at 7 p.m. The game will be the team’s first since meeting since a quarter-final faceoff at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games (which saw Canada edged in extra time). The match will also be a first for new Canadian head coach Carolina Morace. Tickets to the match are available via Ticketmaster ( / 416.872.5000). For those fans outside the Toronto area, the match will also be broadcast live on Sportsnet.
GO FIGURE: Thirty of Canada’s top figure skaters are gathering in Toronto for Skate Canada’s annual pre-season camp from May 22-24. The off-ice camp features world championship silver medallists Patrick Chan (Toronto) and Joannie Rochette (Île Dupas, Que.), bronze medal ice dance pair Tessa Virtue (London, Ont.) and Scott Moir (Ilderton, Ont.), and pair Jessica Dubé (Drummondville, Que.) and Bryce Davison (Cambridge, Ont.).
COUNTDOWN TO 2010: Only 266 days remain to the XXI Olympic Winter Games … VANOC announced this week Phase 2 of Olympic ticket sales. Over 150,000 Olympic tickets will go on sale at on June 6, including several thousand tickets for each of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
