Canadian Olympic Team Connects With Moncton Students
4,000 middle school students to unite with Olympic and Paralympic Heroes in Coliseum show
In a move set to engage the youth community in Moncton, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) today announced an amendment to its Hall of Fame program slated for April 14. In cooperation with local school officials, the COC will host an exciting school-based concert for more than 4,000 local middle school students. Staged at the Moncton Coliseum, this Thursday morning show will be held in lieu of the evening concert with the Sam Roberts Band.
“Following the result of great work by all parties involved, we have found a way to amend the schedule and engage and entertain the youth in Moncton,” said Chris Overholt, Canadian Olympic Committee COO. “We encourage all students to show their pride and passion and wear their red and white as we fill the Coliseum with Olympic spirit and provide an opportunity for them to interact with some of Canada’s top Olympians, watch awe-inspiring videos and be entertained by Canadian band, Arkells.”
“What a great way to kick-off the celebrations in Moncton and a wonderful and enriching legacy for our students,” said Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc. “This is one more wonderful event that will rekindle the energy and emotions felt following the Vancouver Games, as the athletes, sport leaders and entertainers from across Canada gather to celebrate the tradition of sporting excellence in Moncton and Atlantic Canada.”
Through moving stories and messages of perseverance, goal setting and determination, students will be inspired to achieve their personal best while encouraging participation in life-long sport and physical activity.
The decision to focus on delivering an engaging educational opportunity for the students of Moncton regretfully created logistical and scheduling conflicts involving the myriad of events surrounding the COC’s Hall of Fame week program and resulted in the cancellation of the Canadian Olympic Team Rocks the Hall Concert, previously scheduled for 7:30 p.m. We would like to thank the Sam Roberts Band and The Stanfields for their continued support of the Canadian Olympic Team.
Individuals who have purchased tickets to the Canadian Olympic Team Rocks the Hall Concert may obtain a refund by returning their tickets to the Moncton Coliseum Box Office. Please note, regardless of ticket point of purchase the Coliseum Box Office is the only venue which will process ticket refunds.
