Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal recipients have Olympic connections

TORONTO – The Canadian Olympic Committee released the following statement today, regarding the inaugural recipients of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal:
“These fine Canadians have distinguished themselves with their service to their country. The Canadian Olympic Committee is very proud to count Alex and Ray among our Olympic Family. They have carried the flame of the Olympic Values in their sports and in their communities. They have truly made Canada a better place.”

The following Diamond Jubilee Medal recipients have contributed to the Olympic Movement in Canada:
Alexandre Bilodeau (Montréal, Quebec): Canada’s first Olympic gold medallist on home soil, awarded the medal for his contributions to sports and for inspiring others to follow their golden dreams.
Ray Kokkonen (Trout Brook, New Brunswick): Biathlon pioneer, Canadian Olympic Hall of Famer and former COC Board Member, awarded the medal for his contributions to the Canadian Forces and to the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association.
