Olympians Give Back For Thanksgiving
TORONTO – Seven Canadian Olympians donated their time to Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank today, unpacking, sorting and boxing donated food that will be distributed to various agencies and families for the Thanksgiving holidays.
“This is such an important cause to support,” said 2008 Olympic Trampoline silver medallist Jason Burnett. “There are families and children that are hungry in our own communities and we all need to do our part to help them.”
“Thanksgiving is a time for sharing and for community,” said Robyn Gayle, member of the bronze medal-winning women’s soccer team in London. “We all have to give our everything to make sure everyone has a happy Thanksgiving.”
“No one should have to go hungry,” said basketball player Alisha Tatham. “We’re here to do our part so the less fortunate members of our community can have a meal this Thanksgiving.”
“Everyone can make a difference,” said sailor David Wright. “Working together, we can make a real difference for a very large part of our community. I’m excited to be here to help.”
Daily Bread Food Bank is a non-profit, charitable organization that is fighting to end hunger in our communities. Every year thousands of people across Toronto rely on food banks. Daily Bread serves these people through neighbourhood food banks and meal programs in over 170 member agencies.
