Gerrits Soars to Silver at Worlds
Travis Gerrits of Milton, ON soared his way to a personal-best finish at the 2013 Aerials World Championships in Voss, Norway to claim a silver medal and in the process sets the stage nicely for an early nomination to the 2014 Canadian Olympic Team.
Gerrits scored a 117.73 on his final attempt to win his third silver medal of the season after finishing second on the World Cup circuit twice this season at Val Saint-Côme, QC and Deer Valley, Utah.
“I have done so much training up to this point,” said Gerrits who earned his Canadian Freestyle Team Method A nomination to next year’s Sochi Games with his medal. “To finish second place today, with the crazy competition , I’m just happy to be here. I’m part of the big boys now. And to qualify for the Olympics – I couldn’t be happier. ”
The medal also continues a streak of six consecutive World Championships podiums in aerials by the Canadian Freestyle Association, dating back to 2003. In that time span, Canadians have won a total of eight medals.
