1000 days to Rio 2016

Three months to Sochi 2014, it is perfectly understandable for Canadians to be caught up in the excitement of the upcoming Olympic Winter Games.

However, some 11,000 kilometres away from the Russian city on the Black Sea, hosts of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro marked a special occasion on Saturday. It is 1000 days to Rio 2016.

03-Maracana

15AthletesVillage

The Athletes Village will hold 31 buildings and host 17,000 people during the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Municipal Olympic Company/Renato Sette Camara).

08-Sambodromo

Sambódromo is the stage of the world famous Carnival of Rio. It will host the archery tournament and the start and finish of the marathon (Rio 2016/ BCMF Arquitetos).

09-OlympicStadium

Stage of the athletics competition, the Olympic stadium was initially built for the 2007 Pan American Games (Rio 2016/LUMO Arquitetura).
