10 pictures of Team Canada athletes exploring Rio

With less than 100 days to Rio 2016, some of Canada’s Olympic hopefuls have already begun exploring the host city of this summer’s Games.

From hanging out on the beach to visiting historic sights, here are 10 photos of Canadian athletes exploring Rio de Janeiro.

London 2012 gold medallist Rosie MacLennan was obviously very excited to touch down in Rio, and celebrated with a few backflips.

Joseph Polossifakis couldn’t get enough of the beach and decided take his practice outside. Could this be the start of a new venue for fencing?

Modern pentathlete Melanie McCann built quite the sand castle. Okay she didn’t build it, this cool sand art can be found at Copacabana beach.

And no trip to Brazil would be complete without a trip to Christ the Redeemer.

Rio Flyover: Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer, and more

Athletes didn’t have to travel far to get a sweet view of Rio, just check out Jennifer Abel‘s hotel skyline.

Or this beautiful view beach volleyball duo Heather Bansley and Sarah Pavan stopped to snap a picture with, if you look closely you’ll even see Sugarloaf Mountain in the background.

Watch: Bansley and Pavan with ice in their veins.

Some of Canada’s Olympic hopefuls tested out Rio 2016 venues, including BMX biker Tory Nyhaug.

Dori Yeats and the women’s wrestling team got a taste of the podium in Rio, picking up some hardware at their Olympic test event. Hopefully their haul is just a preview of what’s to come in August.
