TEAM CANADA INSIGHTS:
ATHLETICS:
- Canada won gold in the men’s 4x100m relay for its third straight Olympic medal in the event. Andre De Grasse (Markham, Ont.) anchored the race for Team Canada on his way to his seventh career Olympic medal. This ties him with swimmer Penny Oleksiak as Canada’s all-time most decorated Olympian.
- This is Canada’s fifth Olympic medal all-time in the men’s 4x100m relay. The only other gold medal was won at Atlanta 1996, by a team that included Team Canada’s Paris 2024 Chef de Mission Bruny Surin, and the current head coach of the national team Glenroy Gilbert.
- Marco Arop (Edmonton, Alta.) advanced to the finals of the men’s 800m while Canada also secured a spot in the women’s 4x400m relay final.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL:
- Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, Ont.) and Brandie Wilkerson (Toronto, Ont.) earned a silver medal in women’s beach volleyball. This is Canada’s best Olympic result in the sport and the country’s first medal in the women’s event.
CANOE/KAYAK SPRINT:
- Katie Vincent (Mississauga, Ont.) and Sloan MacKenzie (Windsor Junction, N.S.) captured bronze in the women’s C-2 500m. Vincent won bronze in this event with Laurence Vincent Lapointe at Tokyo 2020, where women’s canoe events were included on the Olympic program for the very first time.
