Paris 2024: Team Canada at the end of Day 9
PARIS (August 4, 2024) – Day 9 at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has come to a close. Here is what you need to know.

TEAM CANADA INSIGHTS:
ATHLETICS:
- Ethan Katzberg (Nanaimo, B.C.) became Canada’s first Olympic champion in any throwing event since Étienne Desmarteau won the 56lb weight throw at St Louis 1904. He is Canada’s third ever medallist in the men’s hammer throw and the first in 112 years since Duncan Gillis won silver at Stockholm 1912.
BOXING:
- Wyatt Sanford (Kennetcook, N.S.) captured bronze in the men’s 63.5kg weight class. He is Canada’s first Olympic medallist in boxing since David Defiagbon at Atlanta 1996. Sanford will stand on the podium to receive his medal on Day 12 after the men’s 63.5 kg final.
