Sidney Crosby to captain Team Canada’s men’s hockey team at Milano Cortina 2026
Cale Makar, Connor McDavid to serve as alternate captains
MILAN (February 8, 2026) – Hockey Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) have announced that Sidney Crosby (Cole Harbour, N.S./Pittsburgh, NHL) will serve as captain of the men’s hockey team at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
Cale Makar (Calgary, Alta./Colorado, NHL) and Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ont./Edmonton, NHL) have been named alternate captains. All three players wore letters at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, while Crosby is a two-time Olympic gold medallist (2010, 2014) who served as captain in 2014.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, and it is an honour to be named captain of Canada’s men’s hockey team, which has so many great players and leaders,” Crosby said. “Connor and Cale, along with our entire group, provide incredible leadership, and I am happy to represent Canada together on the same team. We are all proud to wear the Maple Leaf and compete with Team Canada in Milan.”
Men’s hockey at Milano Cortina 2026 will take place Feb. 11-22, 2026 (Day 5-16), with games at both the Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena and Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena. Canada will open the tournament against Czechia on Feb. 12 at 10:40 a.m. ET/7:40 a.m. PT, and will also take on Switzerland on Feb. 13 at 3:10 p.m. ET/12:10 p.m. PT and France on Feb. 15 at 10:40 a.m. ET/7:40 a.m. PT in preliminary-round play.
