Biography

Gaby Dabrowski made history at the 2023 U.S. Open when she became the first Canadian to win a women’s doubles Grand Slam title, taking the crown with New Zealand partner Erin Routliffe. She was part of more history just a couple of months later, helping Canada win the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time ever.

Dabrowski made her Olympic debut at Rio 2016 where she competed in women’s doubles with Eugenie Bouchard, making it to the second round. She competed in women’s doubles with Sharon Fichman and mixed doubles with Félix Auger-Aliassime at Tokyo 2020.

Dabrowski is a two-time Grand Slam champion in mixed doubles, taking the 2017 French Open title with Rohan Bopanna and the 2018 Australian Open title with Mate Pavic. She is the first Canadian woman to win any senior Grand Slam title. She and Pavic were runners-up at the French Open in 2018 and 2019. In women’s doubles, she was a finalist at 2024 Wimbledon with Routliffe and 2019 Wimbledon with Xu Yitan.

Representing Canada in the Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) has been a career highlight for Dabrowski, who was part of Canada’s rise from the Americas Zone in 2013 all the way to winning the Finals in 2023. In those Finals, she teamed with Leylah Annie Fernandez to win the decisive doubles match in the semifinal against Czechia. She and Fernandez also won the clinching doubles match in the spring Qualifiers against Belgium.

Dabrowski realized how special it is to represent her country while walking into the Opening Ceremony at the Guadalajara 2011 Pan Am Games where the energy was incomparable to anything she’s ever felt. Four years later she was a double medallist at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, winning gold in women’s doubles with Carol Zhao and finishing second in the mixed doubles with Philip Bester.

As of July 2024, Dabrowski has won 16 career women’s doubles titles on the WTA Tour. That includes four 1000 Series titles at the 2017 Miami Open, 2018 Qatar Open, 2021 Canadian Open, and 2022 Madrid Open. She had her best performance to date at the WTA Finals in 2023 when she and Routliffe reached the semifinals. She achieved a career-high WTA doubles ranking of No. 3 on July 15, 2024.
