Brooklyn Douthwright

Biography

Brooklyn Douthwright won five relay medals at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. She swam in the finals of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay (in which Canada won gold) and the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay (in which Canada won bronze). She swam in the prelims for the women’s 4x100m medley relay (Canada won gold), mixed 4x100m medley relay (Canada won silver), and mixed 4x100m freestyle relay (Canada won bronze). Individually, she was a B-finalist in the 200m backstroke.

Douthwright debuted at the World Aquatics Championships in 2023 where she swam the anchor leg for the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay that finished fifth in the final. She had qualified for the team by finishing second in the 100m freestyle at the 2023 Canadian Swimming Trials.

Douthwright was a triple bronze medallist in relay events at the 2019 World Junior Swimming Championships. She finished third in the 200m backstroke at the Canadian Olympic Trials in 2021. She won gold in the 200m freestyle at the 2022 Canadian Championships.     

Douthwright swims collegiately for the University of Tennessee where she is a seven-time All-American. She helped the Lady Vols to the SEC Team Championship her freshman year in 2022. She won the 200-yardm freestyle gold at the SEC Championships in 2023 and followed up with a silver in the event at the NCAA Championships. In 2024 she finished third in the 100-yard freestyle at the SEC Championships.  

Douthwright won four medals at the 2017 Canada Summer Games and was selected as New Brunswick’s flag bearer for the closing ceremony.

A Little More About Brooklyn

Getting into the Sport: Started swimming competitively at age 9… Her grandfather owned a pool company so it was only natural for her to have a pool in her backyard… She started in artistic swimming at age 7 before transitioning to racing… She decided to focus on racing when she was 14… Outside Interests: Enjoys spending time outdoors (hiking, playing sports, going to the beach)… Studying biomedical engineering at the University of Tennessee… Odds and Ends: In 2015, at age 12, became the youngest person to ever swim the Northumberland Strait, the 15km of open water between New Brunswick and PEI…  …
