Josh Morrissey
Biography
Josh Morrissey is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026. Morrissey was a member of Canada’s championship-winning team at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off.
His first experience with the senior national team came at the 2017 IIHF World Championship where he helped Canada take home a silver medal.
Morrissey twice represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championships, winning gold in 2015 when he earned a spot on the Tournament All-Star Team
Morrissey made his international debut in 2012 at the World U17 Hockey Challenge as a member of Canada Pacific. That same year he was part of the U18 development teams that took home gold at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and bronze at the IIHF World U18 Championship. He returned to the World U18 Championship in 2013 and helped Canada to a gold medal, leading the tournament in points by a defenceman.
Selected 13th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, he spent one season with the Manitoba Moose in the AHL before becoming a permanent fixture on the Jets blueline in 2017-18. He had a breakout season in 2022-23, scoring a career-high 76 points. He was named an alternate captain prior to the start of the 2019-20 season.
Morrissey played junior hockey with Prince Albert and Kelowna of the WHL. In 2012-13 he was the WHL and CHL Scholastic Player of the Year. He served as captain of the Raiders in 2013-14 and led the WHL in goals by a defenceman. In 2014-15 he was traded to Kelowna and helped lead the Rockets to the WHL Championship and the Memorial Cup Final. He represented the WHL All-Stars in the Canada-Russia Super Series in 2014 and 2015. Morrissey won bronze with Team Alberta at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
