Biography

Sophiane Méthot secured Canada’s only spot in trampoline gymnastics at Paris 2024 with her fifth-place finish in the women’s individual event at the 2023 FIG Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships in Birmingham, England. She will be making her Olympic debut.

Méthot struggled with an injury during the qualification process for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games but since returning to competition in late 2021, she has been a consistent performer for Canada. She has qualified for multiple finals on the World Cup circuit, highlighted by a bronze medal in Coimbra, Portugal in July 2024. She also posted a fourth-place finish at a 2023 World Cup in Varna, Bulgaria, a seventh-place finish at the 2023 World Cup in Coimbra, Portugal, and an eighth-place finish at the 2023 World Cup in Santarem, Portugal.

In her FIG World Championships debut in 2017, she brought home a bronze medal in the individual competition. In  2019, she captured bronze in women’s team trampoline with Rosie MacLennan, Sam Smith, and her long-time training partner Sarah Milette.

A two-time Pan American Champion in women’s individual trampoline and the non-Olympic synchronized trampoline event in 2018 and 2016, Méthot first made her mark on the international stage when she was crowned the 2015 World Age Group Champion in the women’s 17-18 category.
