Biography

  • Won 800m bronze at the 2023 Canadian Championships 
  • 2019 USports Champion in the 600m in his last year of varsity sport; calls it his career highlight for the way he bounced back from the disappointment of not making the podium in the 1000m the day before; had won 600m silver at the 2018 USports Championships  
  • Competed collegiately for the University of Ottawa

A Little More About Stephen

Getting into the Sport: Initially got into track thinking it would be good cross-training for hockey… Fully committed to the sport at age 19… Broke his toe that year, which became a blessing in disguise because he learned the most about himself and his sport… Outside Interests: Enjoys playing guitar in his band and playing music alone or with friends and going to music festivals; favourite music genres include alternative, grunge, classic rock… Worked as a parliamentary assistant for two summers… Would like to pursue a career in municipal politics… Graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2019; specialized in political science and minored in communication with French immersion… Odds and Ends: Collects hotel pens… Pre-competition ritual is to jump up, scream, land on the ground, yell, and then slap his chest twice…
