Canadian Olympic Committee supports Bell Canada's 'Let's Talk Day'

Toronto, ON, February 8, 2012

TORONTO – Today, the Canadian Olympic Committee is calling for Canadians from coast to coast to coast to “speak out” in support of mental health as part of Premier National Partner Bell Canada’s ‘Let’s Talk Day’. In this important campaign fronted by Canadian Olympian Clara Hughes, Bell Canada will donate 5 cents to programs dedicated to mental health for every text message sent or long-distance call made through the Bell network.

“We strongly support the continued efforts of our partners at Bell Canada as they work to improve mental health across Canada,” said Canadian Olympic Committee President Marcel Aubut. “We know what an incredible difference a healthy state of mind can make to performance and quality of life, and we encourage all Canadians to answer the call in support of this worthwhile cause.”

At least one in five Canadians suffer from mental health issues and many of those are reluctant to seek help due to the stigma surrounding the illness. By encouraging openness and raising funds in support of mental health, Bell Canada “Let’s Talk” initiative is helping to make a difference to Canadians of all ages and in all areas of the country.

The “Let’s Talk” initiative is based on four pillars: anti-stigma, care and access, research, and workplace best practices. For more information on Bell Canada’s “Let’s Talk Day” please visit http://www.bell.ca/letstalk.
