Badminton nominees announced
MONCTON, N.B. – Canada will nominate four Badminton players to the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team. Michelle Li (Markham, Ont.), Alexandra Bruce (Toronto, Ont.), Grace Gao (Calgary, Alta.) and Tobias Ng (Vancouver, B.C.) will represent Canada in London.
Li will compete in the women’s singles event and partner with Bruce in the women’s doubles event. Gao and Ng will team up in the mixed doubles event.
“Part of the excitement of the countdown to any Games is watching the Team grow stronger with more athletes,” said 2012 Canadian Olympic Team Chef de Mission Mark Tewksbury. “I welcome our Badminton players to a team that will inspire us this summer.”
“Our Badminton players have given their everything to get to this point,” said 2012 Canadian Olympic Team Assistant Chef de Mission Sylvie Bernier. “They will make Canadians proud in London.”
“I am very proud to be nominated to the Canadian Olympic Team,” said Li. “It is a dream come true to compete for Canada at the Olympic Games.”
“The Olympic Games are the goal for any high performance athlete,” said Bruce. “I’m excited to get on the court with Michelle and get playing.”
“It has taken a lot of hard work to get this far,” said Gao. “There is still a lot more to do before London, but I can’t wait.”
“This is a very big honour, to represent Canada at the Olympic Games,” said Ng. “We’re going to take everything we’ve worked on and practiced and bring it all together in London.”
“Canadian athletes are driven, determined and defiant.” said Canadian Olympic Committee Board Member Gene Edworthy. “We are all very proud of you and we can’t wait to see you give your everything on the court in London.”
