Jennifer Heil
Team Canada Medal Count
Biography
Jennifer Heil is a three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic medallist in moguls freestyle skiing. At both the Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, it was Heil who put Canada on the medal table, winning the country’s first medal of each Games.
At Turin 2006, Heil captured Canada’s first Olympic gold medal in any women’s freestyle skiing event with her victory in women’s moguls. It was also Canada’s first Olympic medal in women’s moguls. She followed that up four years later with a silver medal at Vancouver 2010, becoming the first Canadian to win multiple Olympic medals in freestyle skiing. Heil had made her Olympic debut at Salt Lake City 2002 when she finished fourth as an 18-year-old.
Heil retired from competitive skiing after the 2010-11 season and left the sport on a high, having captured gold in both the women’s moguls and dual moguls events at her final FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in 2011. That led to her being named the winner of the 2011 Bobbie Rosenfeld Award as Canada’s female athlete of the year.
Heil earned four world titles in her career, having also won dual moguls gold in 2005 and 2007. Until 2021, when Canadian moguls skier Mikaël Kingsbury won his fifth world title, no one had won more gold medals at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships. Her resumé also includes world silver medals in moguls in 2007 and 2009.
A consistent competitor, Heil won the Crystal Globe as the overall FIS Freestyle World Cup champion for the 2006-07 season. She also won five small Crystal Globes as the top World Cup competitor in women’s moguls, including four straight from 2004 to 2007 and another in 2010. Heil finished her career with 58 World Cup podiums, including 25 victories.
