Thomas Harley
Biography
Thomas Harley is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026. Harley was an injury replacement at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and went on to help Canada secure the championship title. He registered an assist on the opening goal in Canada’s 3-2 overtime win over Team USA in the final. He was one of just two players on the roster born after 2000.
Harley’s only previous international experience was as a member of Canada’s junior program. He first wore the maple leaf with Team Canada Black at the 2017 World U17 Hockey Challenge. He was then a member of the fourth-place team at the 2019 World U18 Championship. He picked up his first piece of international hardware with the U20 team, bringing home a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships.
Harley was drafted 18th overall by the Dallas Stars in the first round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He made his pro debut in the 2020 NHL Playoffs, after making a three-day road trip from Syracuse to Edmonton to join the Stars in the ‘Covid bubble’. He spent the next three seasons playing in both the AHL and NHL. In 2020-21, he led the AHL in goals by a defenceman (8). He joined the NHL club permanently at the end of the 2022-23 season and helped them reach the first of three consecutive Western Conference Finals.
Harley played junior hockey for the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL, serving as an assistant captain in his last year. He was a two-time end-of-season All-Star Team selection and was awarded the 2019 OHL Scholastic Player of the Year trophy. He twice represented the OHL All-Star team in the Canada-Russia Super Series.
Harley grew up in Syracuse, New York as a dual citizen of Canada and the United States, always celebrating Canadian holidays and cheering on Canadian teams.
