Brad Marchand

Biography

Brad Marchand is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026. He first played for the senior national team at the 2016 IIHF World Championship, winning gold and being named a Top 3 Player on the Team. A few months later, he helped Canada win the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, scoring a shorthanded goal with just 44 seconds left in the final for his team-leading fifth goal of the tournament

It would be nearly a decade until he returned to international play at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, where he helped Canada win the title. He was the second oldest member of Team Canada, behind only Sidney Crosby.

Marchand won back-to-back gold medals at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2007 and 2008, part of Canada’s run of five consecutive titles at the tournament.

He first wore the red and white as a member of Canada Atlantic at the 2005 World U17 Hockey Challenge, scoring 11 points in six games to help claim the bronze medal. He then won gold with the U18 development team at the 2005 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament

Marchand was selected in the third round, 71st overall, by Boston in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. After beginning his pro career with AHL Providence he made his NHL debut in October 2009. In his first full NHL season in 2010-11 he helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup. His 11 goals in those playoffs, including two in Game 7 of the Cup final, were tied for the second most by a rookie in NHL playoff history.

Marchand became a core piece of the Bruins franchise. He helped lead Boston to the Stanley Cup final again in 2013 and 2019, leading the playoffs in scoring in the latter season with 23 points. He was named an assistant captain in 2019 and became team captain in 2023 following the retirement of Canadian Olympic gold medallist, Patrice Bergeron. He enjoyed a breakout season in 2015-16, netting 37 goals, and set a career-high with 100 points in 2018-19.

Marchand was traded to Florida at the 2025 trade deadline and helped the Panthers lift the Stanley Cup.

The NHL veteran has more than 1100 career games played in the regular season and passed the 1000 point plateau early in the 2025-26 season. He is a four-time end-of-season NHL All-Star Team selection. He holds the Bruins franchise records for playoff goals (56), overtime goals (16), and shorthanded goals (31).

Marchand began his junior hockey career with the Moncton Wildcats, winning the QMJHL Championship and reaching the Memorial Cup final in 2006. He was dealt to the Val d’or Foreurs the following season and led the QMJHL playoffs in scoring with 40 points, ultimately losing in the President’s Cup final. In his last season of junior he was traded to his hometown Halifax Mooseheads.

He represented the QMJHL All-Stars on three occasions in the Canada-Russia CHL Challenge and also played for the Canada U20 team in the 2007-08 Canada-Russia Super Series.
