Biography

Drew Doughty is a two-time Olympic gold medallist and a two-time Stanley Cup champion.

Doughty made his Olympic debut on home ice at Vancouver 2010 where he was the youngest member of Canada’s gold medal-winning men’s hockey team. Doughty went on to compete at Sochi 2014 where Canada successfully defended their place atop the podium after going undefeated in all six games of the tournament. Doughty led Team Canada in Sochi with four goals, earning him a spot on the All-Star Team.

In 2025, Doughty was a member of Canada’s gold medal-winning team at the 4 Nations Face-Off. He had last suited up for Canada in 2016 when the team won the World Cup of Hockey. Doughty debuted with the senior national team at the 2009 IIHF World Championship where Canada won silver. The year before he helped Canada win gold at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship where he was named Best Defenceman and to the tournament All-Star Team.

Doughty’s NHL career began with him being drafted second overall in 2008 by the Los Angeles Kings. Doughty made the Kings’ roster in his first year as a pro and has remained with the organization ever since, playing more than 1200 regular season games. He owns the franchise record for most goals and most points by a defenceman. Doughty won two Stanley Cups with the Kings in 2012 and 2014. Doughty was awarded the James Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenceman in 2016, becoming just the second player in Kings’ history to do so, after Rob Blake. He was an NHL First Team All-Star in 2016 and 2018.

Doughty was inducted to the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2012 with his teammates from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic hockey team.
