François Cauchon

Biography

François Cauchon competed in his first Pan American Games at Santiago 2023 where he was part of Canada’s gold medal in the men’s team sabre.

Cauchon first competed internationally in 2016 at the cadet level. In 2019, he won bronze in men’s individual sabre at the Pan American Junior Championships. He went on to finish 15th at that year’s FIE World Junior Championships.

Cauchon debuted at the senior level at the FIE World Championships in 2022. In both 2022 and 2023, he contributed to silver medals in men’s team sabre at the Pan American Championships.

A Little More About Fran­çois

Getting into the Sport: Started practicing fencing at age 12… Enjoys that it is a sport that combines physical, mental, and strategic aspects… Was also a competitive alpine skier when he started fencing, so couldn’t compete in fencing until the ski season finished in the spring; won the first fencing tournament he entered… Outside Interests: Graduated from the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Commerce (Major in Finance)… Works part time as a financial analyst… Would like to work in investment banking… Odds and Ends: Coached by four-time Olympian Jean-Marie Banos who inspires him with his determination and resilience… Favourite quote: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal.
