Kristin O’Neill
Biography
Kristin O’Neill has won five medals (three gold, two silver) at the IIHF Women’s World Championship since making her debut in 2021. After not being part of the Olympic team at Beijing 2022, O’Neill scored her first world championship goal later that year in Canada’s semifinal win over Switzerland en route to a second straight world title. She was one of Canada’s top scorers with two goals and three assists as they won gold at the 2024 World Championship.
O’Neill first represented Canada at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, winning silver in both 2015 and 2016. She made her international debut with the senior National Women’s Team team at the 2018 Four Nations Cup.
O’Neill played collegiately at Cornell University, serving as team captain for three years. She was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2017 and then the Ivy League Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2018. She was a three-time nominee for the Patty Kazmaier Award for the top collegiate player in women’s hockey.
Upon turning pro in 2020, O’Neill joined the PWHPA, playing with Montreal and winning the 2021 Secret Cup.
O’Neill was selected seventh overall by Montreal in the inaugural PWHL Draft in 2023 and spent two seasons with les Victoires. She was dealt to the New York Sirens at the 2025 PWHL Draft.

Getting into the Sport: Started playing hockey at age 4 with her older sister Bridget… Had her Olympic dream sparked while watching a women’s hockey game in person at Vancouver 2010… Outside Interests: Enjoys cooking, painting, reading, biking, cross-country skiing, hiking… Completed a Masters of Science in physiology of child development and developmental disorders at the University of Waterloo in October 2024… Graduated from Cornell University in 2020 with an undergraduate degree in psychology… Would like to become a speech pathologist… Odds and Ends: Competed in track and field in high school… Inspired by Brianne Jenner who is from her hometown and also attended Cornell… Favourite quote: “Maybe the amount of extraordinary things that happen in your life depends on what you notice”…
