Nathan MacKinnon
Biography
Nathan MacKinnon is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026.
MacKinnon was named MVP of the 4 Nations Face-Off in 2025. He led the tournament with four goals, including the game-winner against Finland that clinched Canada’s spot in the final, where they defeated Team USA in overtime.
MacKinnon went on to suit up for Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Championship. He was the team’s leading scorer with seven goals and six assists. That was the fourth time MacKinnon had competed at the IIHF World Championship. After making his debut in 2014, he helped Canada win gold in 2015 and then added a silver in 2017 when he was Canada’s leading scorer with six goals and nine assists.
MacKinnon also represented Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Junior (U20) Championship.
MacKinnon was selected first overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He has played there through the 2024-25 season and has served as assistant captain since 2016-17.
MacKinnon won the Calder Memorial Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year in 2014. He won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022. He capped the 2023-24 season by winning the Ted Lindsay Award (most outstanding player voted by NHLPA) and Hart Memorial Trophy (most valuable player voted by Professional Hockey Writers’ Association). He had previously been a finalist for the Hart Trophy in 2021, 2020, and 2018. He won the Lady Byng Trophy in 2020 in recognition of his sportsmanship.
