Ryan Decenzo

Biography

Ryan Decenzo began his pro skateboarding career in 2010 after winning the 2008 Tampa Am, considered the world’s most prestigious amateur skateboard contest. That year, he began competing at the X Games and won bronze in the street event in his debut. He went on to win street gold at the 2016 X Games in Austin and street bronze at the 2023 X Games in California. Decenzo has three other X Games medals, including back-to-back gold medals in Game of SK8 in 2011 and 2012 and Real Street silver in 2011. 

Competing for Team Canada at Santiago 2023, where skateboard was included at the Pan American Games for the first time, Decenzo placed fourth in men’s street. He qualified to make his Olympic debut at Paris 2024 as the 19th-ranked man in the World Skate street rankings. He had finished 16th in the first leg of the Olympic Qualifier Series in Shanghai in May.  

Decenzo reached the final in his World Skate Tour debut in Rome in 2022. He has represented Canada at five WST World Championships, reaching the semifinals on three occasions. 

In 2011, Decenzo finished first overall on the Dew Tour after winning events in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. He joined the SLS Tour in 2013 and earned his first career SLS podium in Chicago in 2013. He placed fifth and sixth at the SLS Super Crown Finals in 2022 and 2023, respectively. 

A Little More About Ryan

Getting into the Sport: Started skateboarding in 2000 and began competing in local events around Vancouver in 2003… As a 14-year-old, took the bus to downtown Vancouver to skate all over the city with friends… Loves the freedom and creativity… Outside Interests: Enjoys snowboarding, riding dirt bikes, cycling… Earned a Certificate of Arts at Kwantlen University College in Surrey, B.C. in 2006… Odds and Ends: Inspired by Paul Machnau, who mentored him as a young skater and showed him the ropes of professional skateboarding… Favourite quote: “Can’t stop, won’t stop!”…
