Toronto 2015 organizers reveal the torch
With spring around the corner, it’s full speed ahead to 2015 Pan American Games.
That in mind, organizers of the Toronto event this summer unveiled the torch that will guide Canada’s path to the Opening Ceremony.
Toronto 2015 kicks off on July 10 and the opening ceremony will feature a lighting of the cauldron, similar to the Olympic Games. The torch will be first lit in Teotihucan, Mexico this spring before the start of a 41-day relay set to include 3,000 torchbearers starting May 30.
The number 41 is significant as that many member nations are competing in the Pan Am Games. The flame will be first lit at the Pyramid of the Sun outside Mexico City in an Aztec-led ceremony before it is handed over to Toronto 2015 organizers.

Once the flame reaches Canada, outside of Ontario – the Games’ host province – the torch is set to appear in (west to east) Richmond, Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal and Halifax among 130 communities.
Olympic champion Simon Whitfield has been named as one of the first torchbearers. The triathlon legend said of taking part in the torch relay that he is “looking forward to that moment as it truly is an honour to represent my community and Canada.”
Earlier in March, Toronto 2015 organizers also unveiled the medals that will be awarded to winning athletes.
