Milano Cortina 2026: Team Canada at the end of Day 8
MILAN (February 14, 2026) – Day 8 at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games has come to a close. Here’s what you need to know.

* Please note that the qualification rounds for men’s and women’s snowboard slopestyle will now take place on Sunday, February 15 at Livigno Snow Park. The events were originally scheduled for February 16.
TEAM CANADA DAY 8 MOMENTS:
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
- Team Canada’s quartet of Alison Mackie (Edmonton, Alta.), Jasmine Drolet (Rossland, B.C.), Liliane Gagnon (Shawinigan-Sud, Que.) and Sonjaa Schmidt (Whitehorse, Yuk.) competed in the women’s 4×7.5km relay, placing eighth.
- This is a new distance for the women’s relay at the Olympic Games. It was previously 4x5km, but distances in all cross-country skiing events have been equalized for women and men.
CURLING
- Canada’s women’s curling team is now tied for eighth in the standings alongside Japan after losses today against Great Britain and Switzerland.
- On the men’s side, the team suffered their first loss of the tournament, falling to an undefeated Team Switzerland. After four draws, Canada now sits tied for second in the standings alongside Great Britain.
FREESTYLE SKIING
- The Olympic debut of dual moguls began with the women’s event.
- Maïa Schwinghammer (Saskatoon, Sask.), Ashley Koehler (Lac-Beauport, Que.) and Jessica Linton (Vancouver, B.C.) were each eliminated in the 1/8 finals, while Laurianne Desmarais-Gilbert (Sainte-Adèle, Que.) was defeated in the 1/16 finals.
- Megan Oldham (Parry Sound, Ont.) and Naomi Urness (Mont-Tremblant, Que.) qualified for the freeski big air final, which is scheduled for Day 10 (February 16).
HOCKEY
- The Canadian women’s hockey team are heading to the semifinals after defeating Germany, 5-1.
- In her return to action, Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, Que.) scored her 18th career goal at an Olympic Games, tying her with Hayley Wickenheiser for the most all-time by a Canadian woman.
SKI JUMPING
- Canada’s first five-time Olympian in ski jumping, Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes (Calgary, Alta.), finished 45th in the men’s individual large hill. This was the final Olympic event for Boyd-Clowes, who announced yesterday that he will be retiring after Milano Cortina 2026.
- Boyd-Clowes and teammates Alexandria Loutitt, Matthew Soukup, and Abigail Strate won bronze in the inaugural Olympic mixed team ski jumping event at Beijing 2022. It was Canada’s first ever Olympic medal in ski jumping.
SPEED SKATING – LONG TRACK
- Laurent Dubreuil (Lévis, Que.) won the bronze medal in the men’s 500m.
- It’s Dubreuil’s second career Olympic medal, having won silver in the men’s 1000m at Beijing 2022.
- It’s Canada’s sixth Olympic medal all time in the men’s 500m, but the first since Nagano 1998 when Jeremy Wotherspoon and Kevin Crockett shared the podium after winning silver and bronze, respectively.
- In the women’s team pursuit, Canada’s reigning Olympic champions—Ivanie Blondin (Ottawa, Ont.), Valérie Maltais (La Baie, Que.) and Isabelle Weidemann (Ottawa, Ont.)— had the fastest time in the quarterfinals (2:55.03). The semifinal and final rounds of the event will take place on Day 11 (February 17).
SPEED SKATING – SHORT TRACK
- Courtney Sarault (Moncton, N.B.), Kim Boutin (Sherbrooke, Que.) and Florence Brunelle (Trois-Rivières, Que) have all advanced to the women’s 1000m quarterfinals. The remaining rounds will all occur on Day 10 (February 16).
- Canada has advanced to the women’s 3000m relay finals, set to take place on Day 12 (February 18).
